7amleh - The Arab Center for the Advancement of Social Media condemns the attack by the Israeli Occupation forces on Thursday morning, August 18, 2022, on 6 of the most prominent Palestinian civil society institutions based in Ramallah. The Occupation forces stormed the headquarters of the Al-Haq Foundation, the Addameer Foundation for Prisoner Care and Human Rights, the Bisan Center for Research and Development, the Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees, the Union of Agricultural Work Committees and the International Movement for Defense of Children Palestine Branch, forcibly entering their offices, tampering and confiscation of their property, and installing iron locks on the doors, with military orders to close them immediately and permanently.

This military attack today is another step in current escalations, as part of a series of continuous measures that the Israeli authorities have taken, to target these institutions to silence them, especially through attempts to discredit them, detain their employees and even issue orders declaring their “delegitimization” in November 2021, without any evidence consistent with the standards of international law and human rights principles. The United Nations, with its international committees and experts, multiple countries, hundreds of human rights movements, civil work institutions, activists and academics around the world, have condemned these repressive decisions and orders.

Moreover, this attack comes as part of the systematic practices pursued by the Israeli authorities to restrict Palestinian rights work, narrow the space for Palestinian institutions and civil society, and systematically and continuously suppress human rights activists and activists.

7amleh also calls for canceling the orders issued by the Israeli authorities against these institutions, and calls on the international community to intervene immediately to stop the attack against Palestinian civil society.
