Discriminatory Policies on Social Media Platforms in Times of War

7amleh invites you to the second installment of our Palestinian Digital Rights Group, we will be discussing the role of social media since the start of the war on Gaza and the ongoing genocide. 7amleh will be joined by our partners at the Action Center for Race and the Economy, as well as the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights as we explore how social media has impacted recent events in Palestine and Israel. Though we will be discussing social media in general, our conversation will have a specific focus on Meta, YouTube, and X (Twitter).

Panelists:
Cat Knarr, Communications Director, U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights
-Cat is USCPR’s Communications Director. With a background in journalism, international studies, and religious studies, she has worked in communications at primarily non-profit organizations for the past eight years. Cat is a writer of Palestinian and Colombian descent who was drawn to USCPR’s collective liberation work, joining the team in May 2021. She graduated from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.

Ramah Kudaimi, Campaign Director, Crescendo Project, Action Center for Race and the Economy
-Ramah Kudaimi was previously the Deputy Director at the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights, where for nine years she led and supported BDS (boycott, divestment, sanctions) campaigns in solidarity with the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom, justice, and equality. She has served on the board of the Washington Peace Center and has been a member of the National Committee of the War Resisters League. She also organizes with the Syrian Solidarity Collective and has been an activist with other organizations including the Arab American Action Network.
She holds an M.A. in Conflict Resolution from Georgetown University and a B.S. in Journalism from Northwestern University. She dreams of a world without war, militarism, and borders, and believes we can create that world through a commitment to collective liberation and transnational solidarity with all those fighting oppressive regimes and systems.

Jalal Abukhater, Advocacy Manager, 7amleh - The Arab Center for the Advancement of Social Media
-Jalal Abukhater is a Palestinian rights advocate based in Jerusalem. He is the Advocacy Manager at 7amleh, the Arab Center for the Advancement of Social Media, which is a Palestinian Digital Rights Organization that fights for a free, fair, and safe digital space for all Palestinians. Jalal holds a Master in Diplomacy from the University of Malta (2020) and an MA (Hons) in Politics & International Relations from the University of Dundee (2016).

Taysir Mathlouthi, EU Advocacy Officer, 7amleh - The Arab Center for the Advancement of Social Media
-Taysir Mathlouthi is 7amleh’s EU Advocacy Officer. She previously worked at the NGO International Alert and at UNICEF MENA as a communications and social behavior change expert. She holds five masters in International Relations and Human Rights, Media and Communications, Political Science, War Studies and Filmmaking from Paris 8, Paris Sorbonne and Sciences Po Paris universities.
