Ramallah, Haifa, April 3, 2023 - 7amleh - The Arab Center for the Advancemet of Social Media announced the launch of the program for the seventh edition of the Palestine Digital Activism Forum and the opening of registration. The Palestine Digital Activism Forum is considered the largest digital event on Palestinian digital rights and this year, the forum will be held in a composite format (online and offline) over three days, from May 23 to May 25 of this year.

 

This year, the Forum boasts cooperation with 45 partner institutions, hosting more than 90 speakers and trainers locally, regionally and internationally, including the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the occupied Palestinian territory, Francesca Albanese, and the Special Rapporteur on the right to freedom of opinion and expression, Irene Khan. Major social media companies, including Meta, Zoom, Google and Wikimedia, will also participate in the forum.

 

This year's forum comes under the theme of "Undoing Digital Discrimination against Palestinians" in an attempt to network and open dialogue between Palestinians of all places and to gather forces between Palestinians and supporters of the Palestinian cause, to study, understand and discuss the various effects of digital discrimination against Palestinians and societies. other marginalized people around the world, with the aim of uniting to put pressure on technology companies and governments to end the systematic discrimination against them.

 

The activities of the forum for this year come in a hybrid form (online and offline), as the digital activities include various political sessions focusing on different aspects of digital discrimination against the Palestinians. The first day's sessions focus on issues of the impact of tourism applications, digital maps, and archives on the narratives of oppressed peoples, the impact of digital economic discrimination on the right of Palestinians to access freedom, justice, and dignity, and the use of surveillance technologies to deepen systematic discrimination against Palestinians and communities of color around the world. As for the sessions of the second day, they discuss the impact of legislation issued by the European Union on the digital rights of Palestinians, and the impact of the digital divide in Palestine on various aspects of life, not to mention discussing the possibilities of confronting defamation and racism campaigns against Palestinians, in addition to dealing with the relationship between artificial intelligence and discrimination. rights of marginalized communities. The last two sessions on the third day focus on the impact of legislation issued in the United States of America on digital rights around the world, and the closing session of the forum will be on the topic of solidarity between peoples to overcome the effects of digital discrimination and hold companies and governments accountable.

 

In addition, the digital events include discussion sessions with some technology companies and with the Meta’s Oversight board. Not to mention some interesting workshops focusing on different issues such as how Google tools can be used to stay digitally safe, and a workshop on how marginalized communities can use Meta platforms to raise awareness of their issues, and many other digital events.
