We work to create a safe, fair, and free digital space for Palestinians by monitoring and researching issues related to digital rights, providing digital security and advocacy, building the capacity of civil society, and leading both local and international advocacy campaigns.

Position Overview

The Monitoring and Documentation Department at 7amleh – The Arab Center for the Advancement of Social Media is seeking a motivated Tech Intern to support the development, deployment, and optimization of our hate speech and violence detection pipeline on Microsoft Azure. The internship focuses on building scalable cloud pipeline to support content moderation and social media analysis. This opportunity, offered through 7amleh’s Tech Internship Program, provides hands-on experience at the intersection of advanced cloud technologies, machine learning, and digital rights advocacy, enabling interns to contribute directly to real-time efforts to monitor and combat online hate speech and violence.

Location: Ramallah

Commitment:

• 16 hours per week

• Six-month paid internship
  
  

Key Tasks:

• Develop, deploy, and maintain cloud-based data pipelines on Azure for ingesting and processing social media data.

• Implement and optimize Azure Functions, Azure Blob Storage, and Azure SQL for scalable data workflows.

• Support integration of natural language processing models for detecting hate speech and violent content.

• Monitor pipeline performance, troubleshoot issues, and improve reliability and efficiency.

• Collaborate with the data science team to automate model training and inference workflows in the cloud.

• Assist with documentation, reporting, and visualization of processed data and analytics results.
  
  

Selection Criteria:

• Solid programming skills, especially Python or similar languages.

• Experience with Microsoft Azure services such as Azure Functions, Blob Storage, and Azure SQL.

• Basic understanding of cloud architecture, serverless computing, and containerization.

• Prior experience with data pipelines, ETL processes, or automation is desirable.

• Proficiency in Arabic and English, working knowledge of Hebrew is advantageous.

• Preferred: Awareness of the digital rights context in Palestine and the MENA region.
